Mokuepa ~ Expression And Transformation

Ometeotl, in southern native circles, is a concept honoring creator, acknowledging the dual energies of creation, Ometeotl opens and closes prayer.

On a warm breezy night while closing a summer solstice ceremony some of the newer participants thought we were saying “Ohmateo” as we closed the prayer. Many that knew Mateo thought it was a reference to him, and this led to the origin of our name. Aside for the moment creating a teaching opportunity to the meaning of Ometeotl, we ended up circling back to prayer, taking a different form.

Being that everyone was in a good space, the combination of the confusion of the names and a ceremony that welcomed us with the medicine of laughter, we ended up laughing so much that our bodies began to ache, it was the birth of creativity where impromptu jokes were being yelled out like flying darts. “Ay Mateo,” “Ohh Mateo,” “Eeee Mateo.” The Ometeotl/Mateo jokes provided a platform where the spirit of transformation became the medicine woven within the workshops and skits of many sorts, where the aches and pains lessened, healing of our bodies and souls.

Our company Ohmateo encourages the medicines of laughter even more so as we unpack our traumas and stories. Laughter is an energy that has no color, race, religion or political affiliation. We, at Ohmateo, are looking forward to sharing space as we embark the "Process is the Journey.” .
